How content teams are tackling the challenge of working remotely

Why it matters
Being remote should not decrease efficiency. Make the most out of the tools available to your team and you won't miss a beat in productivity!

The complete guide to hosting a remote session with our storytelling deck and collaboration tools like Google meets, miro, slack, among others

Our tools are versatile and we want to make sure that the ability to use them are not stifled by the fact that a lot of us are now working online. In this guide we’ll go through and show how to use our Storytelling deck with digital collaboration tools in order to get actionable points moving forward.

This guide will enable you to:
- Set up and host a remote session with the Storytelling Deck
- Create a list of actionable points to use in your content plan
- Apply ideas generated from the session on different channels

Preparing the session

Decide on what type of meeting place that best suits your content team.

  • Video chat - Google meets, Zoom, etc.

  • Chat/call - Slack, WhatsApp, etc.

  • Digital whiteboard - Miro, Mural, etc.

It’s important that the set up is able to both cover audio and visual needs. Depending on this you might have to choose one or two platforms. Make sure your team is familiar with the chosen platform before the meeting starts to minimize technical difficulties such as:

  • Not knowing how to write/place post it notes

  • Having to create an account on the platform

  • Having to install additional software

Prepare a surface for presenting the storytelling cards. You can use a tripod for a mobile camera, a webcam or a stack of books to place the camera over the area. If you use a cellphone, the facilitator can join the call both on their computer and phone to be able to show both their face and the surface.

You’ll need:

  • Platform/s that cover both audio and visual media

  • A clean surface to present the cards for the team

  • A facilitator that owns the Storytelling Deck

Step-by-step

  1. Prepare the surface you’ll present the deck on.

  2. Join the meeting before and make sure everyone is present.

  3. Prepare the challenge - you’ll need to have a story in mind. Summarize it on paper, in the chat or on the digital whiteboard.

  4. Pick one card from the deck. Read it out loud and allow time to reflect. Place it where it’s in plain view for everyone.

  5. Allow 3 - 5 minutes for everyone to write down suggestions on solutions. Make sure to get as many ideas as you can.

  6. Repeat step 4. Do this 2 - 3 times in order to come up with different solutions.

  7. Now it’s time to sort through the questions. Place the landing cards where they are in full view for everyone. Take some time to present the ideas and discuss if they’re relevant or feasible for your brand/project.

  8. Take the ideas you have chosen and think of where they fit into the full picture - are they good for Instagram? Would it work better in a blog? What about LinkedIn? Make sure every idea fits into a channel. If the story-idea doesn’t fit into any of your communication channels, save it for a later time.
