How to build on top of the ideas you already have

What you need

  • Post-it Notes/papers and pens

  • Your Ideation Cards (and its instructions)

  • A team of 1 – 6 people (for bigger teams, divide them into smaller groups)

Introduction

This tutorial is a positive pathway to create a safe environment for teams to voice out their opinions with new perspectives and make the ideas you already have even better.

Pro-tips

Always read your focus question out loud and make sure everyone understands it. To find out how you can define your brief with a focus question, check out the Pro Tips section in the instructions.

Steps

  1. Have one person pick up an Ideation Card randomly and read it aloud

  2. Decide on one idea your team favours for this round and note it down on a Post-it Note. Take a new card to build a new idea based on the previous idea.

  3. Place this new version of the idea on a Post-it Note, next to the original one, creating a chain of ideas.

  4. Repeat this process as many times as you’d like and notice how the idea evolves into something entirely different than the original idea.

Extra tip

If at some point, your team wants to explore different options, you can create a new chain by building on top of an idea that’s from the previous chain
